| Tires | Free disposal for up to 4 tires per year for residents of Roanoke County and Vinton. Please contact jurisdiction where you reside for specific guidelines. Bring tires to the RVRA Transfer Station. | The Resource Authority contracts with a recycling company for recycling of the tires. |
| Paint - Latex | Remove lid. A small amount of latex paint will dry up when exposed to air. Once paint is dry it can be thrown in the trash. Use kitty litter to absorb larger amounts of paint. After paint is absorbed, remove lid and throw in trash. Sawdust or ground corncob are the best absorbents for oil base paint. If you have large amounts of oil base paint, call the RVRA for more information on disposal | Churches, schools, theater groups and charity groups may have a need for paint. |
| Metals | Metals can be thrown in the trash. It is best to separate metals and bring them to the transfer station. | Recycle metals by bringing them to the Tinker Creek Transfer Station or to a metal recycling company. |
| Pesticides | Require careful disposal. Do not throw in trash. Small amounts, less than a gallon, can be wrapped tightly in newspaper and taken to the RVRA transfer station. Discontinued pesticides can still be used, but should be used with proper care. For disposal of larger amounts, contact RVRA | The Dept. of Agriculture holds a Clean Day to collect pesticides. Check with the local Dept. of Agriculture for next date. Store in a safe place until Clean Day. |
| Ammonia, bleach, disinfectants & cleaning products | These household products can be diluted with water and poured down the drain. Do not dispose in septic system. | Buy only what you need when you purchase these products and use as much as possible. |
| Needle Disposal | Needles used for inoculations given in the home should be put in non-puncture containers and put in the trash. | These items are not recyclable. |
| Photo Chemicals | Dilute and flush to sewer system. Do not empty into septic system. | Use as much as possible. |
| Gasoline, Kerosene | Check with your filling station. If you cannot find a filling station that will take these products, call RVRA for more information. | Filling stations that accept these products are responsible for recycling or proper disposal. |

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events!
This years events will be held May 4, August 3
and November 2. The collection will
be held at the Roanoke Valley Tinker Creek Transfer Station from
12 p.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS
REQUIRED, PLEASE CALL 387-6225 TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT.
Free to the residents of the City of
Roanoke, Counties of Roanoke and Botetourt, and the Town of
Vinton.
Household Hazardous Wastes accepted include: motor oil,
antifreeze, paints, varnishes, thinners, fluorescent bulbs,
household cleaners, bleach, polishes, kerosene, etc.
No commercial waste, asbestos, tires, explosives, medical
waste or radioactive materials, including smoke detectors, are
accepted.
